Let's Get Loose, Hustle and Shake

These days it seems my posts are a little sporadic but trust me, I'm still here with plenty to discuss for those who care to listen.

I've had three new discoveries in the past week which for me is always a thrill.  I love having so many friends with amazing taste in music.  :)

First up is not actually a brand new find since I've actually seen & heard THOSE DARLINS before but I wanted to share their brand new video. It's the title track to their latest LP Screws Get Loose. I don't think you will find many artists like Those Darlins out there today. They are unique & refreshing in the way they perform, write and live. It wasn't at all what I expected when I first heard about them. My friends John Turner & Bonnie Hannah introduced me first to these ladies. They are currently on tour so if you like the video, check them out in a town near you!! (watch the video below & check out tour dates)

Next, I was skyping with my friend - Rebekah - and she was telling me about a music festival she attended in South Korea. (she is currently teaching english there) She loved all the music she heard and told me about the New Zealand band, ELECTRIC WIRE HUSTLE. It was love at first listen! This is a match made in my heaven since I'm in love with New Zealand and this type of music. As one reviewer put it, their music is  "a collision of throwback soul and synthetic funk".  I agree completely. There self-titled album is something to groove to while taking it easy on an overcast day. (much like today)
I've been listening on Spotify so check them out there or click the links below if you don't use Spotify. Including a video for a song not on the album.

Last but certainly not least, I was able to see some live music last week at The 5 Spot. ALABAMA SHAKES played an amazing set of soulful tunes.  Thanks to Ellery for introducing me to this fine band. There is major buzz going on about them so I would attend a show as soon as possible. Lead singer, Brittany Howard, sounds like she has lived through it all and commands attention on stage. It was a fun show were you can get down & dance if the mood strikes.....

It's been a treat to hear more new tunes in the past week or so. I hope it continues so let me know what you've been discovering lately.
Cheers!

To each their own -> generation

SO I've been thinking about the different types of music that each generation has come out with and how that music seems to stick w/ whomever was growing up at the time.

It's like, I can enjoy & appreciate many types/generations of music but I relate mostly to the music that was most popular as I was growing up...not that it's better or worse music. It's just what seeped into my brain as I was going through various life experiences (which when you are young, seem like the end all/be all of the world).

This all started when I took a lil road trip to see Elbow in concert and was listening to the radio along the way. I was able to find a station playing 80's & 90's music and remembered to use my shazam app-- Learn more here --to figure out the songs/artists playing. (makes a fun lil road trip game as well) I started to tag songs just to remember what they were playing b/c it was creating a fun playlist that I wanted to re-create later.

It felt like so many tunes from the 80s/90s were just about having fun and playing around with somewhat ridiculous lyrics or sound. Although, this is what makes it such a joy to revisit this music. For me, I find something to appreciate in each decades musical flare. It's interesting to listen to how music was/is progressing & changing over the years.

What really made me laugh was thinking about the fact that my brother & I know almost ALL the words to the song - HIGHER LOVE (video)by Steve Winwood or  STRAIGHT UP (song) by Paula Abdul - only b/c our mom listened to the "eazzzy 93" station  growing up. OR 92.9 these days....especially during car pool for school! I actually appreciate the fact that I know these songs so well even though at the time, I was cringing each time a song came on the radio.  I think Brian (my bro) and I have such an appreciation for music because of our mom. Judy has always said, " All I need is 4 wheels and a radio" which I take to heart!. I've never cared about the car that I drive as long as the radio plays & the speakers are loud.

Well, the road trip proved this fact once again since it left me with an incredible playlist for many generations to come ;) Below are some of the songs that I was able to capture along the way....

1. Tomorrow - Silverchair
2. Fade Into You - Mazzy Star
2. To Be With You - Mr. Big
3. Everybody, Everybody - Black Box
4. Dance With Me - Orleans
5. The Tide Is High - Blondie
6. Here I Go Again - Whitesnake
7. Linger - The Cranberries
8. Higher Love - Steve Winwood
9. High Enough - Damn Yankees
10. Second Chance - 38 Special
11. Alive & Kicking - Simple Minds

G, It's been a while

I'm sure most of you have forgotten about my ipod challenge since it's been a while since I posted about a LETTER!  Well, I'm here to post about letter G - I finally got around to finishing.  Honestly, I had to go back and listen to some of it again since I had forgotten where I left off - whoops. **I realize I am skipping over F but had technical difficulty so will cover that next time

Before I get to the stats on G, I wanna give a quick shout out to my girl - ANGEL SNOW! I was fortunate enough to see her perform at The Ryman this past weekend, opening for Alison Krauss.  It was such a beautiful show for both artists. I can't imagine what it felt like for Angel to stand on The Ryman stage in front of a sold out crowd to perform her songs. I was nervous for her (you know how ya get when you watch someone you know do something like that) but she was flawless. I'm so proud to know her and excited that her music is reaching so many people. I think this is just the beginning and someday she will be back on that stage as the headliner!

Ok, now to the letter G:

Total songs = 158

It got pretty scary with 11 songs about GHOSTS:
Ghost by Indigo Girls
Ghost by Jes
Ghost by Live
Ghost Bitch by Sonic Youth
The Ghost In You by The Psychedelic Furs
The Ghost Inside by Broken Bells
The Ghost Of You Lingers by Spoon
Ghost Symbol by Zero 7
Ghost Town by The Specials
Ghost Train by Marc Cohn
Ghost Writing by Neko Case

To balance it out, there were also 11 songs about things that were GOOD. The word with the most songs was GIRL/GIRLFRIEND which doesn't surprise me since we are all about some love songs ;)
I also had 5 songs with GREEN and 4 with GREY to add a little color to the mix.

A couple of favorites that came up were -
Girlfriend In A Coma by The Smiths and Guns In The Sky by INXS

The winning word in which I loved all the songs were GREAT! (how fitting, eh?!)
The Great Curve by Talking Heads
Great Expectations by Elbow
The Great Gig In The Sky by Pink Floyd
Great Rejoicing by Thad Cockrell
The Great Salt Lake by Band of Horses
The Greatest by Cat Power

So there ya have it - my songs of G  - I think you should listen to whatever songs you have that begin with G to find out how GREAT they are ;) ha!

Ch ch cha changes....

Ok, I know that the one guarantee in life is change. (at least that's what I think) Change can be good, bad, ugly, exciting - you name it. It's just that sometimes, I'm glad to look back at the changes that have happened in life even when they are small, non-purposeful changes.

One thing that I've noticed lately, in terms of music, that has changed is visiting/living with my brother. I have so many memories of the first time I would hear an artist/song/band that all of a sudden my brother was blaring from his room/condo/home. I would end up loving the music and buying it for myself.

Just to name a few:

Peter Gabriel Live w/ Paula Cole - his bedroom at the house we grew up in
Guns & Roses - running around in the den, dancing to Welcome to the Jungle
Thome Yorke - driving around Sandestin, FL
Air - Condo on N Street in Washington, DC
DJ Shadow
Massive Attack
Royksopp
Groove Armada
Zero 7
LIVE - my highschool friends will never let me live this one down. they definitely know that I heard this band because of my brother. ;)

All of this to say, things have changed a little since my brother had a lil girl almost 1yr ago. When I visit now it's more about kid songs and staying quiet at nap time. I know he still has gems of aritists out there to introduce me to so I'm just waiting for the day when Sloan (my niece) starts to enjoy the music as well so we can turn the volume up again! Conversations about music have become something that I look forward to discussing with my brother whenever we get a chance. I'm not saying that we like all the same artists/songs - far from it but it's nice to be able to exchange some similar taste in music between each other.

My question for you is - where did your biggest music influence come from?? Family, friend, radio, concert, online, etc?

Sometimes I'm amazed at the music various people have introduced me to and thankful that most of those people are still in my life to keep up the good tunes. Honestly, I think my brother was born to be a DJ or something. He is good with music. YES, he can be controlling or dominating when it comes to what is played but typically you are happy with the end result. He can set a mood, create a party or just be silly. It will always make you smile. :)

Thanks broseph, for all the lovely music you made me aware of along the way! I look forward to what's ahead.....

Cheers to a "Good Winter"

Yep, I love BON IVER and i don't care how you pronounce it - he is a brilliant man. I didn't think I could have an obession until I saw Justin Vernon live. The lights, the sound, the presence  of it all was simply brilliant.

Seriously, I'm in love. This man has created a beautiful album from beginning to end. I can't get enough and that says a lot. I usually over expose whatever my new artist or album may be at the moment. I also get over the artist usually after I've seen him/her live in concert - until now. I've listened to Bon Iver's new album at least 20 times since I bought it a month ago and really want all that I know to enjoy it as much as i do.....I know that's not possible, I just dream when it comes to this music. WOW. SERIOUSLY. LISTEN. IT's that good.

I did not have any expectations when it came to seeing Bon Iver in concert. I just knew that I enjoyed what I heard....now, it's an entire new dimension. Ok, I know it helps that he performed at The Ryman but it is possible to have a mediocre show in the historic venue.

This is one of the first concerts (in a long time)where I really FELT the music. I loved the lighting, the multiple people in the band including two drummers, Justin's unique voice - it was all so magnificent from start to finish. It made life that much better - just knowing this kind of music exists. I know it's totally cheesy but my life is rewarded by knowing this is out there to enjoy. I want to have this feeling on a daily basis. I hope you do as well.......

Cover me

This past weekend I spent both Friday & Saturday evening at Mercy Lounge. It was all about cover bands and classic tunes.

On Friday, YATCH ROCK REVIEW performed. I have to say that this is one of my favorite cover bands. It's absolutely a blast to sing & dance along with the smooth rock of the 70s and 80s. This was my second time to see them in the past couple of months and I will be ready to rock whenever they return. The only problem this time was that apparently these guys have been discovered because it was a much bigger crowd this time around. Their fan base has grown quickly!

Check out the website HERE to get a little taste of some Yatch Rock and maybe even book them for your next event ;) There is a back story to this cover band which includes a 12 episode video series about the lives & careers of American soft rock stars.  I find it highly entertaining and suggest you watch them in order to appreciate Yatch Rock even more.
Here is one of my favorite episodes of the series, just to give you a taste - Yatch Rock, Episode 11  (warning - this does have some foul language)

Next up, I enjoyed The Who's Live at Leeds performed by THE ORIGINAL SHAZAM on Saturday night. This was another rockin' show that took me by surprise. I understand that it would be hard to cover such a legendary band as The Who but I felt they did a great job. It gave me a glimpse of what it might have been like to experience The Who back in the day.

This is what I love about cover bands-- you can hear some of your favorite songs live that you might not have had the opportunity to experience otherwise. Cover bands may not get all the glory of an original band but they are much appreciated by a fan like me.

Are there any particular cover bands that you love? What's the last show of covers that you went to?

Here, there & everywhere

I'm Back! I was on a little vaca last week so I wasn't able to post. I'm sure ya missed me, right?!

I've been discovering a lot of new tunes lately from various places. Typically, I learn about new music from friends or family. Even while on vacation last week, I was excited to hear some new artists/bands on some friends playlists.  It can be overwhelming with all the ways you can find music these days sometimes I don't feel like I can keep up!

Just yesterday a friend introduced me to TURNTABLEFind here - and I can already tell it's going to be my new favorite. You get to interact with other members while taking turns being the dj. You have an avatar that let's you rate the songs played, dj, create your own room or chat. I've always thought it would be fun to be a dj and now I get try it out online.  The only issue is that you have to have a friend on facebook that is already a member in order to join. I recommend checking it out immediately!

Some other places I enjoy discovering music:
EMUSIC - website
GROOVESHARK - website
MOG - website
PANDORA - website
AMAZON MP3 STORE APP (free song of the day) - info
SHAZAM - website
Music Blogs
Paste Magazine - website
Spin Magazine - website
Grimey's Newsletter
and many more....

Where do you find your music? Are you stumbling upon any new ways to find it?

Checking off the list

Well this past weekend, I was able to cross one of the top bands to see live off my list - I attended the U2 concert at Vanderbilt Stadium on Saturday July 2nd. Florence and The Machine opened up for them and I thought for a relatively unknown band, they were able to fill a football stadium with good tunes.  I would think it's pretty tough to open up for such an iconic band as U2.

FATM is slowly growing on me so we shall see if I end up purchasing any of the tunes in the future.

As far as U2 goes - it was absolutely fabulous as I expected. I did mention to a friend of mine that it actually wasn't the best concert that I've seen in my life but it's definitely up near the top. I'm just glad I was able to experience such an incredible band, in a great venue, on a perfect evening!

U2 fascinates me beyond just the music they create.....it's the fact that they started at 16 years of age and have stayed together for 35 years without any major bumps in the road.  I never heard of possible break ups/retirement (then of course the come back)/destroying hotel rooms/drug & alcohol issues/etc -- I'm not saying they haven't dealt with these ins and outs of rock n roll but it wasn't as publicized like many other artists of our time have been. Plus, it's nice to see a celebrity use the power and popularity that is gained in the music industry to focus on other important things in life through philanthropic causes, etc.

Ultimately, they are able to stay together and continue to create music that multiple generations can enjoy. Not a lot of artists can say the same....

One highlight of the evening you should read about here - Fan plays with U2

My Kroger Theory -

Happy Wednesday!

Today's post is kind of random but I experienced my theory earlier in the week so I decided to write about it.

I've had a theory about the music played at various Krogers around town. This past Monday evening, after running into a Kroger for a couple of items, my theory was once again confirmed. I've also had a witness with me a few times (including Monday night) that now agrees with me.

Basically, I've come to the conclusion that Kroger has made a deal with Eddie Money & Taylor Dayne to play their music exclusively. More times than I can count, I have been in a Kroger (especially Belle Meade or Green Hills) and either Take Me Home Tonight (Video) or I'll Be Your Shelter (Video) comes on at some point while shopping. I usually start to sing along with each song just because it makes grocery shopping a little more entertaining. I'm just dumbfounded that these random artists are the main source of music used to accompany folks while they buy groceries?!

*Note - now that I've actually looked at the lyrics for Take Me Home Tonight - the first verse is very appropriate for food shopping. Check it out to the left. ;)

I think what happened is that Eddie and Taylor decided that they might not be able to make much money in music anymore so they made a deal with Kroger to have their songs played every other hour. Even if that's not the case, I think if I was an aging artist - it would be something I would consider.

I might start to keep count of how many times this happens or maybe keep a log of when it happens just to come up with a number for proof. I've been using my SHAZAM app lately so that could be a good way to keep up with it.

Has anyone else ever noticed these songs playing at Kroger?? Do you have any random music theories like this?

Next time you happen to be in a Kroger - try to listen and see if Eddie Money or Taylor Dayne come along for your fabulous shopping experience.....

A few other songs from their collections that might be played as well:

Eddie Money - Two Tickets to Paradise, Shakin', I'll Get By

Taylor Dayne - Tell It To My Heart, Don't Rush Me, Love Will Lead You Back

These songs easily get stuck in your head so watch out!

This week in music....

I wanted to share with you a couple of things I've enjoyed this week with music.

As some of you know, one of my favorite TV shows besides The Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart is The Colbert Report. I love both of those guys - they are brilliant & hilarious. I hope to catch a live show one of these days so if you have a way to get tickets, let me know!

What does this have to do with music? Well, all this week on The Colbert Report - Mr. Colbert is having a "Summer Concert Series" called STEPHEST COLBCHELLA '011.  Each night he has a different musical guest perform. I watched Monday & Tuesday which were both fantastic. I suggest you tune in tonight & tomorrow or go to the website & catch up on all this weeks episodes HERE.  (plus you can watch a few bonus performances by the artists)

The line up is as follows:

Monday - Bon Iver performed Calgary from his new album Bon Iver (which I'm happy to say that I WILL be attending his show at The Ryman in July!)

Tuesday - Florence & The Machine performed Dog Days Are Over from the soon to be released 2nd album (I will also get to see her live since my girl, Carrie, informed me that she will open for U2) Did you know she was discovered in the girls bathroom at some bar? Crazy!

Wednesday - Talib Kweli will perform. I've never heard of him but apparently he is a rapper from Brooklyn. I listened to a little sample on Amazon and he sounds pretty good.

Thursday - Jack White and The Black Belles perform. I've actually seen Jack White around town a couple of times and like some of my friends who have seen him live before have said-- he has a major presence when he walks into a room, it's infectious. I'm not familiar with The Black Belles but looking forward to checking it out.

You get to laugh and listen to great music all in one fabulous show. Two of my absolute favorite things to do!!

The other thing I wanted to share was that I went to see Hangover II last night. Many people I talked to that had seen it didn't really care for it. I thought it was pretty funny even though it was the same format as the first. I love Zach Galifianakis though so he could just be standing there & I would probably start laughing. (I'm a sucker for a good comedian)

As I was watching, I noticed the soundtrack and how much I liked every song. I vaguely remember the first Hangover soundtrack but I know I didn't like the song - You Spin Me Right Round - until they put it at the end while showing the pictures of what happened. Weird, right?!  Yep, now I like the song and will actually listen to it.

Then I went home and looked it up to see exactly which songs were on it. So many times on movie soundtracks they will leave off songs that were in the movie, this bothers me. Thankfully the songs I liked were all on the second soundtrack which you can listen to samples of HERE.

Do you have any favorite movie soundtracks? (besides Garden State, ha!)

Shows n such....

Gonna make this quick - I guess I will be posting either Wednesday OR Thursday...depending on what pops up in life.

Anywho, I'm very excited b/c numerous shows and concerts are coming up for the summer. I still haven't had the true outdoor concert experience this season but I will fit it in at some point.  It's so hard to decide which concerts I am able to go to or afford!

The closest big show coming up is U2 at Vandy Stadium on July 2nd. I am so excited for this one that I almost don't believe it's really happening. I'm wondering who will op[en for them and what playlist of songs they will perform. I love all of U2 but of course have my favorites.

After U2, I will be going to see Natasha Bedingfield at Exit Inn and Katy Perry at Bridgstone Arena.  I am also hoping to go see Bon Iver at The Ryman and Sade in Memphis. We shall see how those turn out but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works out!

The BIG news is that my beloved ELBOW is finally playing in the STATES!!!! They will be in ATL and DC this September. Those are my two choices of places to go see them and I am definitely going to make it happen one way or another. Still can't believe they will be on this side of the pond! :)  If anyone wants to join me, holla!!

Do you have any good concerts that you will be going to see in the next few months? Any recommendations?  Have you already been to some that were outstanding?

Hope your week has been fabulous....

News From Friends!

I know I'm posting a day late but life can get in the way sometimes. Whoops.

There are some exciting things brewing with multiple friends of mine so I wanted to give some shout outs & share the news! I definitely recommend checking the following people out because they are all very talented and continue to allow their passion for music lead them to new ventures ....

I have some dear friends from college that have recently released an album - MAKIN' READY. Even though they have been writing together for a few years now, this is the first time they've produced an album together. Both Matt & Jenny Behnke are talents on their own but I think coming together has put the icing on the cake. I enjoyed this album tremendously when I first had a listen a month or so ago. It's a good road trip cd that is totally fun to sing along. The lyrics are clever and thoughtful which allows the listener to identify with what they are talking about....I would describe the music as Americana/Bluegrass. It's unique in that it doesn't really fit into a specific genre. (like most great music these days)

Take a listen for yourself and find out more about The Behnkes on their website HERE! I might even have a free cd for ya, if you like the tunes & pass along the love to your friends. :)

I also wanted to mention another talented fella in music & beyond - Korby Lenker. He's been touring with Daphne Willis as well as crankin' out his own gigs which you should check out whenever you get a chance. The other cool project he started was launching his website WIGBY! As Korby describes it, "WIGBY is a monthly video blog, featuring pretty much the best artists around, playing and singing great songs with their great voices in an intimate setting."

The first artist for this month is COURTNEY JAYE performing her song "One Way Conversation". A fabulous song that you need to hear immediately! Please check out the website HERE! You can read the back story of the Wigby bird & watch the new video.  Also, please take a second and LIKE Wigby on Facebook as well.  This is a fantastic way to discover new artists or listen to some of your favorites.

Last but not least - I'm so proud of my friend, Angel Snow! She will be opening for Alison Krauss this August at THE RYMAN!! I can't imagine having the opportunity to open for Alison Krauss & Union Station much less to be doing it at The Ryman. What a rare and unforgettable experience that is going to be...She is currently working on her sophmore album which I can't wait to get my hands on. She is also having a lil summer tour so check out if she is coming to a city near you at her website HERE!

Ok, that's all I got for now as far as my friends go -- On a sad note - Our local college station, WRVU, officially went off the air on June 7th.  My nickname for Vandy radio was The "UM" Station (since most of the DJs were learning & tended to say Um a lot)  I will miss the eclectic music, the various DJs and quirky shows. I discovered a lot of good music from them that I don't think I would have found any other place. I think it will leave a little hole in 'Music City' as far as expanding our city beyond country.

Have a music filled rest of the week!

Emotional Toads

As I was thinking about this post, I went back & forth on if I really wanted to discuss something kind of personal. I finally decided that I need to be more open since it's a lot healthier than bottling up everything. I have a bad habit of holding things in until something finally sets off an explosion of emotions. FUN, eh?!

Last night I was listening to a playlist that I had made for someone a while back and a song came on which made me start to cry. I wasn't really shocked since the particular artist has stirred up emotions for many years now whenever I hear them. I think I'm just surprised how deep those feelings go.

Ever since I was little, I've dealt with depression. At first, I didn't realize exactly what it was or that it was really serious in my case, until my early twenties. I just knew that it was difficult to deal with my feelings and thoughts sometimes. During highschool I was introduced to Toad The Wet Sprocket and for me that band became a way to get through some hard times. Specifically, the album - Pale - which I remember many times sitting on my bedroom floor crying my eyes out as I listened to every song.  Three songs stick out the most that expressed my thoughts & feelings so well  -
1. High On A River Bed
2. Torn
3. I Think About

In some ways, I'm glad that I had an outlet because I'm sure I would have been in worse shape if I wasn't able to get my feelings out in some form. It's just interesting to me that all of the songs from this album stuck with me over the years. I remember going to see TTWS in concert at Exit Inn and I ended up standing in the back trying to hide as tears ran down my face. I wasn't sad about anything at the time, it was just that when I heard any of those songs - all of those feelings came back up to the surface.  It makes me realize how powerful music can be....

I still enjoy Toad The Wet Sprocket. All of the other albums they came out with don't have the same emotional power that Pale does so it's not a total cry fest every time they are mentioned. ;)

Do any of you have certain music that stirs up crazy emotions? I know there are other songs or artists that can totally change my mood but TTWS will always be the strongest, I think.

Discoveries

This will be a really short and sweet post.
I had new discoveries which i hope you all have at some point in time. I rediscovered Laura Veirs which I should never forget how wonderful she is....then I listened to Midnight Oil again which will always remind me of highschool and my  brother.  My brother and his friend, John, recorded a version of Midnight Oil that will forever stay in my heart. :}

As i thought about Midnight Oil, I remembered that there were many songs that I actually loved about that band. I listened to the cd that I had and enjoyed it like I was back in the day....

The final discovery was my first Ipod which had my first playlist, artist, influences, etc. It's interesting to listen to what you had back in the day. I recommend it to those who can...
It takes you back to what you were feeling and maybe the experience that you were going thru....

I have more to say about this topic but will let it be simple at this point.

Enjoy ur first love of music. Seriously.

BANNED!

Before I talk about the topic of the day, I wanted to mention that I recently got the latest album from ELBOW (my lil obsession) - Build A Rocket Boys!. I was somewhat nervous about whether I would like it or not because to me it's rare for a band to have enjoyable consecutive albums. I shouldn't have doubted though because once again, they have created an album that is sticks with their style while at the same time expresses how they have evolved. The entire album has made my ears happy & I definitely recommend it!

Ok, so a while back I was talking with a friend and the question came up that if you had to pick a song or artist that you feel should never be played on the radio or in general again, you could live a happy life.

Yes, that is pretty harsh but at some point there are songs which in my opinion are done. I'm pretty tolerant of most music and will even suffer through listening to something I don't really care for sometimes. I do have times that I can't even handle the first few notes of the song. You know when you are flipping around the radio (for those of you who still listen to the radio) and a song comes on, and after a few seconds you recognize it then change it immediately. It can almost ruin your day if you hear even one minute of the song.

I asked around and came up with a list of my own as well as some suggestions that friends made....

SONGS THAT SHOULD BE BANNED FOR LIFE:

My list

* They Paved Paradise & Put Up A Parking Lot (I never really liked this song to begin with but it's gotta go)
* Heard It Through The Grape Vine (I know it's a classic but even oldies need a rest-- although there is a cool cover of this song on the second season of East Bound & Down)
* I've Had The Time Of My Life  (actually many songs from Dirty Dancing could make this list)
* Aerosmith (Sorry to those who are big fans but I feel their time is up!)
* How You Remind Me by Nickleback (go to the bathroom already?!)
* Who Let The Dogs Out (duh)

* If I Could Turn Back Time by Cher (wish I could turn back time and erase this song)
* How Do You Talk To An Angel by Jamie Walters (his voice is just annoying)
* Cotton Eyed Joe (don't even get me started)
* Friday by Rebecca Black ( I was recently introduced to this horrific song by my friend Jamie. It scared me)
If you haven't seen the video of FRIDAY, please watch is HERE  and I will go ahead and apologize for putting something so awful in your head. ;)  A redeeming video can be found  HERE of some reviews- pretty smart kids!

Friends list

* Brickhouse
* Any song from Greece
* Most Christmas songs
* Most Country songs
* Informer by Snow
* I'm A Girl, Not Yet A Woman by Britney Spears
* Hot, Hot, Hot by Buster Poindexter
* Don't Worry, Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin
* Everybody Have Fun Tonight by Wang Chung
* Macarena by Los Del Rios

I'm sure I could add many more to these lists so maybe we will have a second edition to this post in the future.
So do you have any songs you could stand to live without??

A Little Reminder

This post almost didn't happen. I've been extremely under the weather the past few days and wasn't sure if I was up for writing anything. Then by late yesterday afternoon, I finally felt like I was gonna make it so I decided to go get one of my favorite sickness -make me feel better- remedies, an immune builder smoothie from Smoothie King.

When I got in the car to go to Smoothie King, the song that was playing on the radio was You Keep Me Hangin' On by Diana Ross &The Supremes.  I haven't heard that song in a long time so it hit me with a couple of different thoughts.....

First, I thought about how appropriate those lyrics apply to certain times in my life.

"Why don't you be a man about it
      And set me free
Now you don't care a thing about me
      You're just using me
Go on, get out, get out of my life
And let me sleep at night
'Cause you don't really love me
You just keep me hangin' on....."

I mean to be fare, I'm sure some guys would say the same thing about me in that I was the one dragging them along or that I tried to have my cake and eat it too.  Still, we should all pay attention, learn from lessons past and respectfully let someone move on with his/her life. I admit, it's extremely difficult for me to put this into practice since I really don't like hurting anyone or making someone feel unloved.  Also maybe holding out hope and wanting to make things work keeps ya hanging on.  I'm glad I have a fun little ditty to remind me of the better way to go about these relationship situations. Yeah, let the music teach ya how to live. HA!

Sometimes it's shocking to me that somehow the lyrics of a song can sum up a situation much better than I could ever try to explain to someone. Maybe I should just start sending lyrics to explain myself when I need to let someone know what's going on?! Would people be ok with that?  I would dig it. Seriously, I would. It puts somewhat of a fun spin on it at least.

Second, I thought the song was appropriate with how I'm currently feeling about being ill. I'm ready for the sickness to set me free!!  I was so over it when the first symptom showed up. So, then I was inspired to write a post. Crazy how something that is not even five minutes of your day can change things. NICE.

D is for Damn Good Songs

It's time to discuss the letter D songs on my ipod - even though I'm already listening to a few letters past D, I remember enjoying the majority of songs associated with D.  I feel like I could go back and use these songs on a playlist or for a good background party play....hmmm, it might happen?!

Let's get down to business though shall we - STATS:

Total number of songs for Letter D = 215

Some top words that were used the most:
   * Day (9)
   * Devil (5) - this makes me interested to see how many songs I have with Angel
   * Dreams (5) - I feel like I should have more songs with this word since it's one of my favorite things to do.

DO vs. DON'T:
   * Songs with the word Do = 13
   * Songs with the word Don't = 30!!  Wow, I guess there are a lot of things that we shouldn't be doing.

Shortest Song:
Do You Think It's Alright by The Who (24 seconds)

Special Treat:
Dead Heart by Midnight Oil - I actually had to listen to this one over again, I had forgotten about it and how much I enjoyed it.

Well that does it for D.  I'm really enjoying music again now that I'm officially back in my condo!  Good Tunes & Good Times. :)

Travelin' Tunes

Since I'm out of town this week, I'm going to keep it short n sweet for this weeks post.

As I've been traveling, I've thought about the many playlists that I've created over the years for road trips, flights and even a little sailing.  For me, some music is best when enjoyed while in route to an exciting destination. Especially on a road trip! Sometimes I can't wait to blair a new favorite artist or song as I'm driving along the highway. (even better when it's a beautiful sunny day) You know when you get into the groove and start singing (or shouting) along with the lyrics. It's a fabulous feeling like all is well in the world.

I didn't have much time before I left to create a compilation of tunes for my trip out West so I've been enjoying my Shower Door mix as well as continuing the song challenge on my ipod. (I'm currently in the middle of letter G) I will be updating on letter D next week hopefully.

As I sit here in the airport waiting on a flight, I get to enjoy the enchanting sounds of an older man playing piano & keyboard in the middle of the concourse. NICE! It kind of sounds like a mix between a game show theme song and something played on a Charlie Brown cartoon. Hmmmm, I wonder what it's like to play at an airport?!  It reminds me of an SNL skit where Bill Murray was in an airport lounge singing "Star Wars" - too funny!
Bill Murray SNL Character    You tube of song

Ok, gotta go now but hope everyone is having a great week! I think I'll tip the piano player a lil sumptin before I take off.....gotta support all the variations of music in the world. :)

On A Personal Note -

Ok, so just to let you in on what's been going on in my world lately ---- Way back in early February the condo unit above me had a water heater bust & overflow. I was awakened around 5:30 or 6am by a knock on my door.  I was pretty confused b/c no one EVER knocks on my door in the morning. It was my neighbor down the hall telling me he thinks there is a problem because water is dripping from the ceiling outside my door.  I was still waking up so it took me a minute to process what was going on....

I looked into my bathroom and saw water everywhere with multiple places dripping  from the ceiling. It was not the best way to wake up on a Monday!! I immediately got bowls and buckets to catch what water I could, got towels for the floor, and moved anything I could to the bedroom.  Then I made calls to the building management & the owner above me.

Things got cleaned up for the most part but there was definitely some damage. The owner before me had put these aluminum looking sheets over the entire ceiling so once the contractor pulled that off, I discovered mildew and water stains covering most of my ceiling. Not pretty.

Anyway, I decided that if I was going to have to replace the ceiling that I might as well make some changes in the entire bathroom. (which I had wanted to do for a while now) It made sense to do everything at once - Yet, if I had known what was to come, I might have thought about it twice before doing anything.

What should have taken MAYBE 3 weeks at the most, has now gone into the 9th week!! I kept being told, "one more week & it will be finished"....um, yeah right! I should have known after the first delay that more was to come. It's all a long story which I will spare you from the details but let's just say, it hasn't made my life easy the past few months.

I have a small place and with no bathroom/stuff everywhere/dust/etc - I had to stay with my parents during most of this time. Now, I truly love my parents - they are amazing and have helped me tremendously throughout the entire ordeal BUT for me, I was NOT meant to live with my parents again at this point in my life. They were fine, I just missed my space/privacy/schedule/location and many of the little things we don't consider when living on your own.  Especially when I think it will only be a couple of weeks!

The entire experience made me think of the movie, The Money Pit with Tom Hanks. Have you seen it? If so, you know what I'm talking about. The good thing is that it has taught me lots of patience & made me appreciate my condo way more than I ever thought I would. I'm not saying I didn't shed some tears but I've done my best to stay hopeful and happy.  ;)

Ok, you are probably asking yourself "What does any of this have to do with MUSIC?" Well, yesterday when I went by to check on the progress (since it's actually really close to being finished) I noticed that the shower doors had finally been installed. In my mind, the shower doors represented a milestone b/c that meant all that was left was clean-up. I can't tell you how excited those SHOWER DOORS made me at that moment!! I literally jumped up and down. Yep, I did.

So, I hung out for a lil bit and decided to listen to some music. Then I started making a playlist of how I had felt over the past few weeks and what all it took to get to the end. I also wanted something to listen to when I finally get to move back in....

It's pretty funny & actually a good playlist. I wanted to find songs with themes or words about what I had experienced with the re-model. I surprisingly found quite a few that fit but then got off on a random tangent of the most played song on any given album.

Here is the playlist which may be added to in the coming days:
1. The Mall & Misery - Broken Bells (lots of trips to home depot or in this song "the mall" & it was misery)
2. Over The Edge - The Go Find (many times I said to myself that I'm on "the edge" or have reached my limit of patience)
3. Things Go Wrong - Chris Issak (this is an understatement - everything went wrong)
4. Better Be Home Soon - Crowded House (you get the picture of how I felt)
5. Ode To My Family - The Cranberries (because I might not have made it thru without my parents)
6. Where Will I Be - Emmylou Harris (after a while, I didn't feel like I belonged anywhere & didn't know If I would ever be back in my place)

The rest are where I started to go off on my 'most played' songs tangent even though I still tried to keep with the theme but it's harder to explain the connection so I will just list it....
7. The Limit To Your Love - Feist
8. D******d - Kate Nash
9. Wherever You Are - Madi Diaz
10. Exit Does Not Exist - Sun Kil Moon
11. This Must Be The Place - Talking Heads
12. Harder On Me - Via Audio
13. Like A Tattoo - Sade
14. Poor Leno - Royksopp

I've listened to it while I've been writing this post and I must say that I'm very happy with the way it's turned out. ;)

If your a friend of mine on facebook, stay tuned for some before & after pictures of the re-model in a few days. I will also try to post a few up on here for those who might be interested in home improvement.

I know most of us make playlists for road trips & such but do you ever make one for a random experience that you've gone thru? I say try it and see how it comes out -

Show Surprises -

Happy Wednesday folks! I hope all those in Nashville are outside enjoying the beautiful weather.

I wanted to mention that I went to see Jessica Lea Mayfield at Mercy Lounge a couple of weeks ago. I had only first listened to some of her music a day or two before the show. I liked what I heard so I was looking forward to hearing her live. Well, let me just tell you that getting to see her guitar player, Ritchie Kirkpatrick, was alone worth the price of admission...My friend Shelly said he was a local from Murfreesboro so I'm pretty sure he had some support/fans in the crowd. He put on a show all on his on - the moves & faces he was making were quite entertaining! It reminded me of something that would come out of Spinal Tap. He was a definite fun surprise to the show. Not only was he a fun addition to watch but he actually is a very good guitar player. I did enjoy Jessica as well - It was actually hard to believe that she wrote some of her songs and she is only 21yrs old. Always amazes me when young artists seem to have old souls.

So I encourage you to go hear some music that you may not have even heard of or know very well. You just never know what kind of surprises might pop up or what you might end up seeing! :)

Below are some links with more information about Jessica & Richie. You can also watch a video of them playing on The David Letterman Show but Kirkpatrick is a lot more tame than he was in Nashville.

Let's Play!

So while listening to my ipod for the challenge, I realized that I would keep trying to guess the song or artist that randomly came on before it got to the chorus. This made me think of the game show Name That Tune which I sometimes watched in syndicate back in the day.... I love to turn anything I'm doing into a game. (being a game freak that I am)

I decided to check out some clips of the ol' game show in hopes that I could remember exactly how it was played. It's hilarious to go back and see what people were wearing, the old sets, hosts, etc. --I kinda wish there was an updated version of the game so I could play along. I think I would be pretty damn good, I am in my car at least!
The following is a short clip of the part of Name That Tune that I remember most. Sorry the sound is so low but all the clips were pretty rough:
(For those who have heard my office story - PLEASE note what the guy wins at the end, cracks me up & I think that was the original one we had in the office!)
NAME THAT TUNE
While searching for clips, I came across another musical game show that I had never heard of called Face The Music.  It seems pretty entertaining as well and is an interesting take on the use of songs/what people have to figure out?!  Here is a funny clip from that show:
FACE THE MUSIC

Well in talking about these games & songs, I tried to come up with a few tunes that included the word game or was about playing games...
Short List:
* Love Is A Losing Game - Amy Winehouse
* The Name Of The Game - ABBA
* Wicked Game - Chris Issak
* Name Game - (not sure who it's by but the one that goes "Cristy, Cristy bo bisty, banana fanna fo fisty...)

Do any of  you try to guess the song or artist after hearing the first few notes? How many notes can you name a tune in?  I can name that tune in 1 note!! Yep, I'm that good ;)

Brought to you by the letter C

Before I get to my ipod songs in the group of C, I wanted to let those of you who care that Queens Of The Stone Age was a fantastic show! I recommend going to see them if you get a chance in the near future.  As I noted to my friend Shelly, it felt like a boys sweaty locker room - lots of testosterone ladies so possibilities of meeting a man are high, if single. ;)

Ok, now to the letter C songs:
It started out pretty good but then got funky towards the middle. The songs didn't flow as well as they had with B....but it kept things interesting.  It may have been the couple of Christmas songs that snuck in that threw me off. I'm already on letter F at this point and I can tell that my C songs are not gonna be the best letter after all is said & done.  (This seems so nutty to be talking about by the way but oh well)

Here are the stats & random findings:

Total C songs = 249

Come:  the word included in the most titles at 13 songs
Can't, Change & Cold:  2nd most included in titles at 7 each

Some of my favorite songs from C have City in the name:
Milosh - The City
The Go Find - City Dreamer
U2 - City of Blinding Lights
Yes - City of Love
The Weepies - Citywide Rodeo
(maybe that's why I like livin in the citaaay, ha!)

Hidden Gems that had slipped my mind:
Jellyfish - Calling Sarah
Ingrid Michaelson - Cover of Can't Help Falling In Love
Cat Stevens - Can't Keep It In
Enya - Caribbean Blue
Sun Kil Moon - Carry Me Ohio
Laura Veirs - Cast A Hook
LIVE - Century
Candlebox - Change
Radiohead - Climbing Up The Walls

Most Entertaining & made me laugh a lil:
Little River Band - Cool Change
Poco - Crazy Love

Shortest song in C:
Outkast - Cruisin In The ATL ( 19 seconds)

If you don't recognize some of these songs or artists, I encourage you to take a listen & see what ya think.....have a good one folks!!

Tis The Season

Since Spring is just around the corner (official first day of Spring is this Sunday) - it makes me think about the Spring/Summer Concert Seasons.  Music lovers get excited about all the big tours coming in town...at least I do!

One of my favorite things to do is attend an outdoor concert or music festival of some sort - even if I have to travel to get there. Something about good weather & good music just makes me happy. The only issue is funding these music adventures. I've always intended to start a specific savings account for entertainment which the bulk would pretty much go to shows that I wanna see throughout the year.  Seriously need to make that happen....I'm also curious to know how much money I spend on music in a year.  (actually, i probably don't need to know that fact)

I started thinking about some of my favorite outdoor concerts from the past -

* Road trip to Colorado to see Trey Anastasio at Red Rocks. I really didn't know or listen to Trey's music but I didn't want to pass up an opportunity to see a show at Red Rocks. It was amazing! I felt like an undercover reporter because of the huge hippie scene. My friend let me borrow some of her clothes & accessories so I think I pulled it off pretty well. ;)

* Going to see the band LIVE at Starwood Amphitheatre and sneaking up to the front row just in time to hear the last couple of songs.

* Ani D Franco at River Stages when my friend & I snuck in wine by putting it in ziplock bags underneath our clothes. (come on, you know you've done it)

- just to name a few off the top of my head.

Well, I'm starting the "season" off right by attending Queens Of The Stone Age this FIRST DAY OF SPRING,  SUNDAY at the Ryman. It's not outdoors but I will certainly find one to enjoy the lovely weather soon.

What are some of ur favorite outdoor concerts from the past?  Are you looking forward to any shows coming up this season? Any recommendations?

---next week I will catch up on my ipod challenge with the letter C

The Return Of Music Videos!

Ok, so this past Sunday I went to The Basement here in Nashville to see Angel Snow & Peter Bradly Adams perform. It was a fantastic show and the place was packed! Even though I'm a friend of Angels, I wouldn't go to her shows multiple times and talk about her music if I didn't truly love it. It really speaks to me every time I hear it.

I realized on Sunday that her lyrics mean something different to me every time I listen. I can apply them to something I just recently experienced as well as things from my past. This particular show sounded even better to me which I think was because she had a full band with a few new twists to the songs. It filled the entire room and that is something I love about going to a live performance. I'm all about really feeling the music. (yes that sounds cheesy but it's true)

All that to say as I was listening to a particular song - Coals & Water - I closed my eyes for a minute (I was standing in the back w/ limited view anyway) and I started visualizing a video in my head to go along with the lyrics. I haven't done that in forever!! I use to listen to songs all the time and picture what I would do if I had to make a video out of it. I remember most of the videos involved me riding in a car at some point, staring out the window as it rained - nice, eh?! Actually most videos probably use that type of scene all the time.....

Anyway, I'm glad that I ended up doing it again that evening because it's quite fun. I hope to continue this random, creative way of enjoying music at times since it's kind of another way to dream. ;)

Has anyone else ever done that?? Do you remember the song or what it involved?

Oh yeah- in the Coals & Water video, I was walking away (i most likely across some coals) then suddenly looked back with tears in my eyes. NICE!!

"Voices Carry"

I've had so many things come up recently that I've wanted to write about. It's been hard to figure out this weeks post!

I finally settled on some fabulous artists that I've been enjoying recently....

First up - this past Friday evenin, i enjoyed a show at the basement with my friend Katy. I didn't have any idea who was playing until I googled the band about an hour before I got there. It ended up being Chris Stapleton's new band THE JOMPSON BROTHERS. I only knew of him from THE STEELDRIVERS (which was a great show I caught at The Station Inn) but this new band was a completely different avenue from the bluegrass of before.....I wasn't sure if I was gonna like him doing something other than bluegrass but was pleasantly surprised when I heard it.  I was reading a post about The Jompson Brothers from a DJ who blogs about various music and I would totally agree with what he says about Mr. Stapleton (even if he is a close friend).  His voice is very distinct and fills the room. It makes for good music no matter what genre you put him in.
Check out the post here: A Fifty Cent Lighter & A Whiskey-  seems like an interesting blog overall, love that title!

Second - I'm discovering that when I really like a band or artist, i won't shut up about them for what seems like a long period of time or I will keep telling everyone I know to listen to it. Then the said artist will be on every upcoming compilation/"mixed cd" (or what use to be called mixed tapes, yeah I just dated myself - whoops) which I make for friends & family as a little gift on special occasions. It makes me laugh now to think about it - I'm still making MIXED TAPES - but it's a fun- yet random- hobby to me. If you can call that a hobby?!
Anyway, I figured out my latest music obsession that hasn't gone away since I first started listening to them--  ELBOW -  A british alternative rock band that my good friend, Carrie, introduced me to a couple of years ago. (fyi - i really don't care for genres b/c some artists just don't fit into any in my opinion)  Find more information and fun facts like how they got the name for their band (i'm always interested in that kind of stuff) here: Elbow Info

I remember liking them instantly but the more I listened, the better they got....brilliant stuff! I'm not saying it's for everyone - of course we all have different tastes but for me, I still get excited when they suddenly come on the jukebox (like I did just the other night) Good times :)
After liking both their 3rd & 4th albums, what stands out to me now is his voice. It's not like most other musicians out there which makes it refreshing to listen to these days. BUT the lyrics are brilliant as well (as the brits say)  I want them to tour in America but all i ever see are shows in Europe...which makes me think I should just go there to see them! (excuse to travel- hmmm)
I love every song on both albums which is hard to come by these days - Leaders of the Free World is how I was introduced to them & later picked up Seldom Seen Kid. I would check them out, if I were you ;)

Ok, Third - to bring together the whole "voices that stand out" theme on this one - I suggest that if you are in Nashville, TN and looking for some talented unique voices to listen to - You need to bring yourself to The Basement THIS SUNDAY --- March 6th at 8pm to hear PETER BRADLEY ADAMS & ANGEL SNOW perform! For a free download of Peter Bradley Adam's song "For You" click here-> Basement Show  & to get a little taste of what you will hear....Both of these artists bring something new to the table o tunes.

All that being said, you will probably hear about Elbow (as well as the other above mentioned artists) in future posts since I tend to get hooked on certain music that comes along.
Enjoy another beautiful day Nashville!!

Starting with letter B

When I finished the songs beginning with B on my ipod I felt like I was off to a good start. Here are a few things I realized from letter B songs:

Out of 272 songs - I declare Styx the winner for most songs starting with B (6 total) and of course had many songs called BABY (13 total).  I didn't feel the urge to skip or struggle to listen to most of the songs along the way which was nice. Breathe Me by Sia was easily the top song since I have it loaded 3 times from various versions & listened to all without skippin. (remember I can only skip if it's a duplicate)
Another funny thing that happened was that I found myself waiting for Burnin Down the House by Talking Heads....i guess that was one B song that I knew would be coming at some point towards the end.

Bs and Styx:
Babe
Best of Times
Best Thing
Blue Collar Man
Boat on The River
Borrowed Time

Some hidden gems that I had forgotten about:
Broken Toy by Keane
Brown Sugar by ZZ Top
Boo by Pinback
Blasting Through the City by Thievery Corporation
Billie Jean by Michael Jackson
Back In The Day by Missy Elliott Featuring Jay-Z

Most Random:
Banter (live) by Flight of the Conchords

The song that started the entire challenge:
B.Y.O.B. by System of a Down

Favorite song in B:
Breathe Me by Sia

THE CHALLENGE

Ok, so a few months ago I wanted to play a song on my ipod and I usually can go to the artist to find what I want....but this time I couldn't think of the artist so I looked it up by song. This got me to thinking and I started listening to the songs that played after this which were not on the same album or artist.
I decided to challenge myself to listen to all the songs on my ipod straight thru without skipping. (unless it is a duplicate) The songs are in complete alphabetical order so it is one random song after another usually.  I ended up starting with the letter B and will go all the way thru until I get back to B.
I started around November 17th so it's been 3 months and I'm slowly working my way thru the letters - currently on D (like I said SLOWLY). I've already discovered some hidden gems, forgotten tunes and some "why is this on my ipod?" music so I'm looking forward to other profound info about the tunes I listen to or have downloaded on the ipod.

Along the way, I will report on each letter so stay tuned to all the stats/recommendations/etc from the letter B songs! It's actually pretty interesting....at least it is to me & that's what matters, right?!

Also coming up, I'm gonna talk about some recent shows & artists. LOVIN the live shows these days! You will note that I may plug some upcoming shows that I will be attending b/c I hope you will attend them as well or at least send someone to represent  (if you know what's good for ya-HA).

I'm leaving this post a lil short n sweet but come back b/c there is fun stuff on the way, promise :)

February 7, 2011

I've been TILTed!

I recently had the privilege of checking out an upcoming album by a local artist here in Nashville. I've never done any type of review or anything but I'm all about supporting the local talent so here we go...

Brett Ryan Stewart has a new album, Tilt, set to be released on February 28th, 2011 and I believe it is worth checking out. His style/genre is described as an "indie/pop sound peppered with a southern influence." (i would agree)
For me, this album was fun to explore & made for good energy... I found his writing to be very relatable & honest. I know he co-wrote some of the songs on the album so whatever chemistry they have, works! The following are some songs that stood out to me and what I liked about each:

I listened to the album a few times, paying attention to the lyrics first and then melody later-
Sunshine - I feel like we are all asking the questions in this song lately since winter won't seem to let up around here.... so you may hear me hummin this tune until I see some SUN!
The Bend - This song pretty much sums up what i've needed to say & do in a few of my past relationships (which is why sometimes i wish it wasn't cheesy to just play a song for someone when you feel like you can't express how you feel) I love the melody of this as well.
Godless - This one is a lil' rougher around the edges but that's why I like it. It hits more on a rock level than some of the other songs.

Next, I wanted to have Brett speak for himself so I asked him a few random questions and here is what he had to say:

1. If you could play any venue in the world, where would it be & why?

"I've never been one for giant stadium concerts, so where some might say Red Rocks....I would probably opt for a more quaint setting like Royal Albert Hall. Not that I would turn down an invite to Red Rocks."

2. Which grabs you first when hearing a new song - lyrics or melody?

"Being a sucker for melody, I'd have to say that's the first. BUT a great melody has to be backed up by substance in the words and most importantly, conviction & sincerity in the delivery. It doesn't have to be pretty to grab you. That's what I love about Bukowski. His writing is so gritty and usually vulgar but ya know what, it's real. I'll buy any story if it's honest."

3. What's something you love about making music & something you hate?

"I love the process and especially the sharing part. Sometimes both can be grueling but then sometimes you'll get into that zone. Time fades away and you lose yourself in the magic of it all. You're no longer the 'creator' per se, but a vehicle for something greater than yourself. That's the payoff."
"What do I hate about it? Well often times that, whatever it is, that's using you as a vehicle won't let you alone long enough to function like a normal human being. Your sleep will be interrupted, you'll miss your exit on the interstate or you'll just be flat out anti-social in the most inconvenient of times (like spacing out in the middle of an interview, for instance)."

4. How does your new album differ from what you may have done in the past?

"Without a doubt this album is more, for lack of a better word, uplifting. In the past I'd written from a place of tremendous angst. Not to say that this record lacks angst, but this time rather than having you drown in it, it becomes the fuel which propels you to a higher place. At least, that's my hope."

He added: "Now. All eccentricities aside, this is also the first record I've made in a while that I didn't record in my home studio. We worked at TrueTone with David Henry and it made all the difference having his expertise on the board. It's also my first truly collaborative effort since my last rock band. Between my collaborator Chris Tench, producer Tres Sasser, as well as some co-writes with Tami Hinesh, Will Webb and my friend Ketti Viohl, this has been such an exciting process! We all had such a great time and I think that comes through in the record."

CONCERT WISH LIST

Well, for a while now I've been wanting to write or 'blog' about music but never got around to actually doing it.  Many people I know have some kind of blog/twitter/website/come check out what my life is like- type of connection with the world so I thought I would give it a shot.  I have multiple reasons for starting this but mostly, I would love this to be another way to discover new music & find out what people are listening to & why.  Also I'm happy to give free plugs, reviews, shout outs, etc for friends that are trying to make a name in the music biz. (or any other kind of career)

SO that being said - please give feedback, discussions and comments on the music you dig, discover or 'dirty dance' to.....

To begin:  I was thinking about a conversation I had with a couple of friends a while back-- A friend asked, "Who would you want to see in concert living or dead?" (or something close to that)  Of course, i rattled off the first few artists/bands that I could think of off the top of my head but quickly after I said the names, i realized that I would need to revise that list.

A week or so later, I went back and listened to the music I most love-- Following is the revised list for artists (living or dead) I would want to see in concert that I have not previously seen:

TOP 10 CONCERT WISHES:
(random order)

1. U2     (which i will be able to check off the list on July 2nd!)

2. Journey      (I would have to take my sis-n-law, Virginia, on this one)

3. Radiohead!!

4. Pink Floyd

5. Elbow

6. Bob Marley

7. Peter Gabriel

8. Michael Jackson

9. Nirvana

10. Beyonce

It's not a question that I can easily answer off the top of my head. I would of course be able to add many to this list & probably change it up depending on my mood. These just happen to be some artists that I think would be amazing to experience in person.

Now, what artist/band -living or dead -  would u love to see in concert??

Stay tuned for a NEW album review, projects and recent shows I've seen......

CHEERS~
